Flexible Learning Toolboxes at CIT

What are Toolboxes?

Toolboxes are high quality resources from the National VET E-learning Strategy, 2012 - 2015 (formerly the Australian Flexible Learning Framework) featuring scenarios, images and interactive activities that simulate real life.

They are designed for use by training providers, industry and business and to support online delivery of recognised training packages for the vocational education and training sector.

Toolbox materials now come in two formats:

  • an integrated learning program incorporating a number of units of competency. These programs are available on a CD-ROM for installation on a server or for use on a stand-alone computer.
  • a learning object format allowing users to download smaller self-contained components of content for free. Learning objects generally support an element or unit of competency

Toolboxes can be customised to suit individual teachers’ requirements, run from a CD-ROM or operated within a learning management system like Moodle. The great variety of information and activities in toolboxes need not be restricted to completely online delivery. The active learning experiences included in the toolboxes offers classroom students an independent and interactive approach to their learning.

The Toolbox Learning Object Repository

The Toolbox Repository is a bank of over 1400 FREE learning objects available for teachers and trainers to download for use with their learners.

All of these learning objects provide the same type of engaging e-learning found in Toolboxes. Content is available from over 50 Toolboxes which support the delivery of over 500 units of competency from nationally endorsed training packages. Learning objects are also available from projects that the Australian Flexible Learning Framework has funded and from The Learning Federation collection, which is now part of The National Digital Learning Resources Network.

The Toolbox Repository contains e-learning games, which address national skills shortages as well as tutorials on how to customise learning objects.

Here are some examples of the learning objects available:
